Kids Classes
The oceans of our planet hold much value and beauty and have inspired artists for ages. Focusing on ocean pioneers, youth explore artistic and scientific wonders with a focus on treating the earth, ourselves and each other with kindness. Drawing, watercolors and natural material/found object sculpture comprise this week with much plein-air art and visits to the lake in several places within walking distance of Wingspan Studio.
This week focuses on drawing and painting techniques, inspired by artists from francophone countries. Participants partake in daily drawing exercises to hone "seeing" skills and gain a strong foundation in color mixing, composition and form with the use of acrylic paints. French language learning is woven throughout the week and this camp is best for those with an interest in art and French. No previous experience required.

Start Summer off with outdoor activities, fun and art! Kids have a chance to spread their wings through nature walks, outside games, natural/recycled sculpture making, painting and free time to explore their interests. Some good ole’ fashion dumpster diving too for treasures! NATURE/ART/SUPERPOWERS
Journey across the seas as we learn French phrases and songs, study geography, create ancient scroll maps, navigate unchartered territory via walkabouts, and paint in watercolors this week at Wingspan Studio! With brushes, hands and even feet! Allons-y! ART/FRENCH/GEOGRAPHY
Youth create in a playful manner, take nature listening walks, nurture sensory awareness and have free time to explore their interests during this unique week of Wingspan summer camp. French songs and games included. We make playdough, slime, shaving cream sculptures, draw, paint & romp through nearby natural areas. ! ART/NATURE/FRENCH
Participants spread their wings with art projects in the studio and outdoors, free play in nearby parks and French learning through games and music.
An eye to kindness and inclusivity permeates this week as we explore the different shapes, colors and textures of flowers.
The miraculous diversity of creatures that fly, reflecting that back to campers' own unique strengths. Allons-y! Madame Maggie can't wait!
Variety of 2-d media from oil pastels, crayons, markers to acrylics and watercolor paints used. Messy friendly clothes a must!
Outdoor lunches, choice time and plenty of play at nearby parks
Create a large-scale (larger than a breadbox, smaller than a ...) cool sculpture based on 2-D drawing/paintings to show your solutions!
This learning approach, known as STEAM, centers on kids becoming problem solvers. We blend the arts, math, engineering and science (social or otherwise).
Participants create, experiment and ponder, becoming Scientists, Mathematicians, Artists and Engineers, their creativity, critical thinking and innovative problem solving skills engaged.
Variety of 2-d media explored as well as Found object/Natural Material sculpture. Hot glue dispenser support provided. Projects differentiated based on interests, strengths, all.
Outdoor lunches, choice time, visits to nearby parks too. Participants pinpoint a problem they would like to help solve and see they can and do matter, and make a difference.
Teen and Adults Classes

Exercise your creativity in this inspiring Painting & Drawing Class. Delve into learning to "see" like an artist, hone drawing skills, explore color mixing and dabble in watercolors, acrylics and water soluble oils. Each class led with a theme in mind around the work of an extraordinary artist such as Niki de St. Phaille, Cy Twombley, Peter Doig, Remedios Varos and more. Open to all levels. All materials provided, easels, smocks etc.

Join Wingspan's relaxing and supportive mid-day drawing/creativity class designed for all levels. Practice eye-hand coordination, "seeing" exercises, explore media and pick up techniques to bring your visions to life! Bring your own lunch if you'd like. Held outdoors weather permitting. This is a fabulous chance to hone painting skills and be in the great outdoors. We will meet in Burlington's OakLedge Park for Saturday and at the Shelburne Farms Inn for Sunday. Best for those with some previous experience. Materials list provided before class. Concepts we'll cover include color mixing, composition, perspective, how to create a plein air painting step-by-step. Demonstrations, one-on-one input and lots of painting time!

This intermediate level class prioritizes conversation practice to ensure that you are on your way to gain real-world fluency. Engage in lively discussions, role plays, all designed to help you express yourself confidently in French. Includes: themed partner conversations- with vocab/helpful phrases, phonetics exercises, reading aloud, comprehension, a little writing, grammar review as comes up and beaucoup of Madame Maggie's tips/instructional strategies. There will be time for personalized attention and teacher feedback as well as opportunities to engage with fellow students and work on topics of interest.
To bring: A notebook, folder, 3-d dictionary (as in a book) French-English. Curricular Content, Art Materials, Handouts and digital supplemental resources provided. Berets optional.

This introductory French class combines a variety of teaching methods including role plays, written handouts, group activities, and multimedia resources to enhance your learning experience and make it fun and dynamic. Perfect for those with no previous French and those who want to dip their toe back in and need a refresher. Learn greetings, sentence structure foundations, pronunciation rules and about the culture of several African francophone countries . Madame Maggie shares tips and strategies to help you build a strong foundation. Learning a new language can be intimidating, especially at the beginning. That's why Wingspan fosters a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable learning, practicing and asking questions. Our small class sizes ensure personalized attention and ample opportunities to interact with fellow learners.

We will work both in the studio and in the surrounding area outdoors as we delve into the wonderful world of color, line and shape. Individual and group creativity exercises, sketching tips, color mixing techniques and the chance to complete two plein air paintings with step by step instruction. Inspired by nature and using our senses and skills honed in the studio to create quick plein air paintings, you will be amazed at the results.

A fun workshop for the beginner artist in a real working art studio and those wanting a jump start/refresher. Work with acrylic paints, watercolors, charcoal, oil pastels and more. Concepts covered include the art of seeing, contour drawing, introduction to painting. Students will learn the basics of color mixing, create a color chart and complete two paintings with step by step instruction. One in an abstract style and another still-life. There's no right and wrong in art creating-just the power of self expression! Join Wingspan this summer and make a mess!
This week is perfect for the artsy, curious and environmentally minded youth! Exploring the major rainforests of the planet, with a focus on the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Congo Basin, youth create visual maps, paintings and mixed-media projects about this francophone region of Africa. French language learning is an integral part of this week with songs, games and some written activities to learn words, phrases and pronunciation.
